People flash briefing on Alexa: An Alley launch

Late last year, Alley Interactive played a significant lead role in the development effort around the migration and re-launch of People.com. We’re excited to announce the launch of another project for this well-known media property. Last week, People’s flash briefing skill (voice application) for Amazon’s Alexa was released, coinciding with Amazon’s announcement of video capabilities within Alexa.

People’s flash briefing is one of the first set of partners to utilize video, providing an enhanced visual experience on the screens of Echo Show devices.

Flash briefings, along with other Alexa skills, are voice-first applications, now complimented with the ability to support video. The Echo Show, released on June 28th, enhances the Alexa experience with a touch screen. With the People flash briefing, users can listen and watch daily updates from PeopleNow host Jeremy Parsons from the comfort of their kitchen or living room.

The smooth creation and launch of this skill is made possible by our open-source VoiceWP plugin, which allows any WordPress site to create its own Alexa skills. If you’re interested in creating a custom Alexa skill for your site or brand, get in touch! We’re always excited to work with new clients, especially in voice and chat applications.
