    Earlier this year, the Kaiser Family Foundation approached Alley with a challenge: the foundation needed a way to display state-level data on a map, with an accompanying table, in a format that was easy to use and embeddable within posts across their WordPress site.

As someone who used to keep his CD collection in alphabetical order by artist (with secondary ordering by year), I am deeply satisfied by how the tagging options help me structure projects.     Last September, CEO Austin Smith was named an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Lenfest Institute for Journalism. He served as a mentor to the Institute’s community of grantees, most of whom were building tools to sustain local media. As part of this program, Austin did extensive research on local news organizations, studying the opportunities and challenges of their unique revenue models, as well as investigating what their path to future success and sustainability looks like.

That’s the question posed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in a newly launched data feature Alley designed and built for the foundation in September 2018. The interactive allows users, for the first time, to find life expectancy for all 73,000 Census tracts in the United States.

    For the past few months, Alley has had the honor of working with the Online News Association on their new resources portal. Before today’s launch, ONA had their conference resources spread across individual conference sites, and it was often challenging for users to find what they needed within the incredible back catalog of ONA conference content.

    This year we had the pleasure of attending AAM Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo in Phoenix, Arizona. With the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery’s Chief Digital Officer Courtney OCallaghan, we had the opportunity to present on the advancements Alley Interactive has been working on with the Freer|Sackler in creating their Alexa Skill and bringing their TMS collection online with WordPress and Elasticsearch.
